There are times in our lives when we suddenly realize that something is missing. ​This is because we have lost or given up parts of ourselves. The emptiness we feel is because we have surrendered at our own expense to the will of others. This can happen without us even realizing it. Often, little by little, we give in for the sake of peace, we settle, or we simply let our needs take a back seat in our lives.

When you give repeatedly, without anything in return, you reach a point where you feel like something is missing from your life. And it is. You have denied yourself so much of what you need, that your true self has gone into hiding and the light of your soul cannot shine through.

This can also happen when someone takes a part of you, or in other words, you give control to someone else out of fear or guilt. The result is that you will be angry and resentful, blaming everything on others or circumstances. Sometimes we direct that anger inward by blaming ourselves. All these negative feelings will build up and you will reach a point where you will do things half-heartedly and out of habit, or you will do what you feel you have to do, regretting that you do not have the courage to take back your power. In reality, you can always choose to be in control of your personal power.

 

You have the ability to change circumstances, to end negative relationships, taking lessons from whatever has happened, so that you can improve yourself and help yourself and others. Shamans usually go inward to search for the pieces of their soul.

They protect themselves because they do not want anything or anyone to interfere or attack them as they travel internally, to search for what has been lost or left behind. They also protect themselves so that what they discover inside does not scare them. It takes courage to face the truth and, as human beings, sometimes there are things about ourselves that we do not like and that we try to deny. No one is perfect, we all have flaws. But this is normal and we just have to learn to accept and love ourselves for who we are, with all our strengths and weaknesses.
